Church boat, "kirkkovene", is a traditional Finnish rowing boat, which carried our ancestors to the holy mass on Sundays, sometimes tremendously long distances. After the seremony there was a rowing race with the other boats on the way home. The winner party of the race collected plenty of admiration and respect from other competitors.
The local sports club "Lappajärven Veikot" has their weekly rowing exercise on Tuesday evenings. Needing some workout, you are welcome to join the team!
exercise starts at the northern shore of Nykälänniemi cape. All wear life
jackets and climb aboard a church boat that can hold 14 rowers at a time. The
church boat is seaworthy and controlled by an experienced mate. Beginners will
be introduced to the secrets of rowing!
The route and the duration of the exercise is determined depending on the weather conditions and the participants. At times we may move fast!
Level of difficulty: Moderate/demanding.
Rowing speed might be high at times.
